Africa, the continent full of poverty, disease and social problems, will become the largest population growing place in the world in this century. Challenge always accompanies with opportunity. What an architect can do is to propose a design criteria of building, which can be widely applied in the urbanized process. From a global perspective, this proposal should be sustainable and economical. Because the building sector contributes a large amount of greenhouse gas emission, urbanization in Africa should reduce the damage to the environment in order to meet the 2 degrees challenge in this century. The process of this design starts from the understanding of status quo in Africa. And the ultimate goal is to design the high-performance building through climate-responsive strategies and eco-friendly material, which can be popularized for local residents and minimize the impact on the environment.
