VERNEOCULAR FROG MARKET

FRACTALS THINKING AS AN CATALYST

Prologue

Past [Age of Materialization]

Vernacular architecture is a form of survival tool by humankind within a climate, developed in the sedentary age when people live permanently at a certain place. As a primal survival, people learn from their habitat, how floras and faunas develop their features to still alive. This form of science is simple yet efficient, mimic the shape of nature (materialization). Lets take a look at tropical climate where it got hot humid air and frequent heavy rainfall through a year. The endemic floras develop its canopy became wide in response to the sun radiation, humid air, and heavy rainfalls. Indonesian Vernacular Architecture mimics this canopy and implement it into a house, thats make the roof is typically the main structure of a house. The building is more like a shelter rather than a fully wall protected.

In this age, where the technology is well developed, should we continue mimicing the shape of nature?

Present – Future [Age of Dematerialization]

The development of science reveals what generates the shape of nature things. That formula is called fractals and it defines the most suitable and efficient geometry for a specific purpose. The basic principle of learning from nature by vernacular architecture is now potentially developed with the emerging of technologies and the new perspective of the way we are looking at a shape as not only a geometry but also a manifestation of a formula (dematerialization). Fractals are powerfull catalyst for the development of architecture and engineering.

Verneocular is a hybrid form of vernacular design principles with the cutting edges technology in architecture, parametrics.

This make verneocular is repeatable as a design method that strengthen diversity depending on which fractal used to generate form and the paramaters.
